Water Plant - picture of transfer pumps and filter tankThe Heyworth Municipal Water & Sewerage System provides the community with safe, high quality drinking water and waste water disposal services. The Village facilities have more than adequate capacity for growth.  The Village water system currently produces approximately 200,000 gallons per day of safe drinking water with the capacity to produce close to 750,000 gallons per day.  The Village treats ground water from 3 shallow wells.  The Village filters the raw water to remove iron and manganese and adds chlorine and fluoride. The Village does not soften the water.  The water system is regulated by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and all lab test are kept on file by the Agency.  Information on past lab results are available at the State of Illinois Drinking Water Watch

Sewer Lagoon #1 - showing control panels and aeratorsThe sanitary sewer system is designed for receiving 400,000 gallons per day (average flow) with the potential to handle more.   Sewage is collected through a system of gravity sewers and 2 pumping stations that carry the waste water to the Village owned treatment works.  The Village was awarded Ameren's Energy Innovator, 1st place new technology award in 2019 for the innovative aeration controls that were installed to further reduce energy consumption at the sewer plant.
